that was enabled only recently for openrc - ive not noticed any
problems yet - AFAIK, systemd users have always had it enabled -
maybe it should wait until after login

if it is too troublesome for you, you can disable it

# rc-update delete pacman-keyring default

OK, thank you. But I think there is a possibility, though, that the service started before I set up the network because it reports a lot of errors, and it seems to me almost all of them are connection errors. I will investigate

I think this should be removed. It causes a huge mess when there's slow connection or no network. A better approach, IMO, it to create a NetworkManager script that refreshes the keyring when connection is up.

bill-auger, could you rebuild pacman without this init script, please? Or at least not enabled by default.

yes - i think it may cause bigger problems too - some people
have reported corrupted keyrings recently - i added that service
only because one was already installed for systemd - IIRC, that
one is not enabled by default; but i think they should both be
deleted

I installed parabola today and a really hard time with the keyring issue. I installed the keyrings packages, initiated and populated the keyrings as described in the wiki, and didn't have any trouble installing packages in the chroot, or later on, but at boot with openrc the pacman-keyring just spews errors, and crashes. I tried removing the service, but the dhcpcd openrc service would pull it back in. and fail because of it. I had to switch to NetworkManager.

the pacman-keyring service was not a good idea - the next pacman
packages will not have it - unfortunately, the keyservers
network is in a state of disarray these days - the TUI install
wizard is also broken because of it - we should avoid using
--refresh-keys for any reason

i suggest that everyone disables the 'pacman-keyring' service -
this command should disable the service:

# rc-update delete pacman-keyring default
