How to jump to file with rox (file manager) [solved]

nona - over 1 year ago -

Hello!

With other file browsers, if I hit a letter key on my keyboard, the GUI takes me to the first instance of a file or directory which starts with that letter. I would like to know if there is a similar way to achieve this with rox http://rox.sourceforge.net/. I looked into the manual and did not know how to look for the information (and did not want to read the whole manual :P ). Thanks!

the way to do that in rox, is to press the forward slash key
'/', then start typing

as you type, the cursor will jump around as you expect, or the
path will turn red if there is no match - it even changes
directories automatically when you type the trailing slash after
a directory name - its quite nifty and pleasurable to use

Thanks, bill! When you do that, does the element (file or directory) get highlighted? (not for me).

yes "the cursor" is the highlight - it draws a box around the
item, and if you press ENTER, it tries to launch the item

Oh, I see what you mean! I wasn't able to see the little box, because the background of the window was black, but it is very clear when the background is white, and using the arrows on the keyboard allows me to move around. Thanks!
