loading amdgpu freezes computer
kiwipekin - about 1 year ago -
Hi, I just installed Parabola and it freezes when booting. I have the same problem when booting from USB stick but it works fine if I add "nomodeset" (how i installed) or "modprobe.blacklist=amdgpu" in grub and then freezes if I manually load it.
The graphics card is a RX 6600.

can you post the output of this command
lspci -vmmnn
that device is not listed on h-node - the mobile version of it is; but it is noted as not working at all
if yours works without the amdgpu module, that may be the best you can do with it

its not the same device exactly, but it does feature the model number '6600M', which does match the one on h-node - my guess is that it is not expected to work with the amdgpu module

I tried debian and it says amdgpu
needs firmware to work and then sway gave an error 0 GPUs.
also sddm doesn't work (on parabola) and doesn't display anything

i assume sddm doesnt work because that gpu you have didnt got fed with cute:3 blobs so it refuses to work. i suggest using the integrated graphics if you have which worked just fine for me since a long time, even before i switched to parabola.
