is there a mktexlsr

nona - almost 4 years ago -

Hi. I would like to know if there are any freedom issues with /usr/bin/mktexlsr or if there is a reason for which it is not included in either the texlive-core or texlive-bin packages. Thanks!

/me does know the answer to either of those questions

is mktexlsr important? - it looks like it can be generated using its own tools in the parabola package

Thanks, bill. I was trying to install the tensor.sty throught the extra/texlive-science package, but it would not let me use it, because it needed mktexlsr. I thought of reporting it, but did not want to create a bug report if there is a freedom issue with it.

if some program suggests to use some other program which has
a freedom issue, then that itself is a freedom bug, which could
also be reported on the bug tracker, just like functional bugs
are

I see. Yes, but I don't know if there are freedom issues with mktexlsr, that is I why I was asking beforehand. Since you mentioned that it is possible to create it from a Parabola package, I guess that it would be fine. Again, I did not know why it is not included, and I wanted to know if there are freedom issues. Thanks.

i also do not know why it is not included; but i dont know what
is for either - i can only presume that the texlive developers
intended it not to be shipped pre-built

the fact that parabola package has some software, does not
imply that there are no freedom issues, but only that there are
no known freedom issues, and that no has has yet suggested
that there may be
