[RESOLVED] Wifi adapter not appearing

rhearmas - about 3 years ago -

Because Libre does not have support for my device, I had no other choice but to mark this as resolved. Thanks to bill-auger for the assistance!

Hello! I hope this post finds you well.

I'll try to keep it as concise as I can -- my wifi device isn't being detected by Parabola. It doesn't appear in both the live ISOs and the actual booted Parabola partition.

My device is the Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377. I've already tried to install the necessary drivers through a chroot, but nothing seems to work. Can I get some assistance?

wireless network devices are the most common which will not
work with libre drivers - the h-node website (or the h-client) is
the most complete resource for determining if your hardware is
supported - in this case, that device is listed as not working

https://h-node.org/wifi/view/en/1833/Qualcomm-Atheros-QCA9377--WiFi-/1/1/undef/undef/undef/undef/wifi-works/QCA9377

the following online shops sell libre-friendly computers and
computing hardware, exclusively - every item on these websites,
is compatible with 100% libre operating systems, such as
parabola

Ouch, that honestly sucks. I was really looking forward to using Parabola too.

If I were to find the drivers and get them installed manually, where would they normally be located? It's very unlikely that I touch the drivers but it's better to say that I looked anyways.

you would not be able to use that device with linux-libre -
the only way to use a kernel module, that linux-libre does not
ship, is to use the arch kernel instead - even if you had to do
that, at least temporarily, that would not prevent you from
running the rest of the parabola system - you would just need to
maintain kernel upgrades yourself, until you can get the
replacement hardware

i would not let this discourage me at all - luckily wifi cards
are among the least expensive and simplest components to replace
- you could find a used one for almost nothing

That makes sense. Thank you so much for your input! I'll mark this as resolved.
