I am using a ASUS Geforce GT 710 with pcie X1 interface (Model GT710-4H-SL-2GD5) because I want to use a NVME Adapter in the X16 Slot.
I discovered some strange behavior. When using the card in a X1 Slot the screen turns black after grub and kernel initialization.
When I put the card in the X16 port, everything works fine and the screen turns not black. I think this is an issue withe the parabola image, arch has the same issue, but Trisquel works with the card in X1 slot.

I tried to install the Systemd version of Parabola using the LXDE Live CD and the Calamares installer would always crash if I chose to encrypt using Luks. When I unchecked that option the install finsihed without any further issue. Obviously I would prefer to have the startup encrypted. I have attached a copy of the install log that was provided as well as a screenshot of the error. I wasn't sure if I should report this to Calamares as it was their installer or here to Parabola as it was this OS I was trying to install. Sorry if I chose wrong. Any ideas on possible ways to fix or bypass the problem ?

Installation Media - Bug #2860 (unconfirmed): Opening a terminal resets the keyboard layout

I just did a fresh install. I selected the dvorak keyboard layout during installation. I discovered that whenever I open a terminal, it changes the layout to qwerty for the entire window session. This seems to be caused by the default .bashrc, whose last line is `setxkbmap us`. (I haven't rebooted to test yet, but the diagnosis looks pretty obvious.) As far as I know, there would be no downside to simply removing that line.

The newest installation media fails to boot on an APU2C4 both with and without microcode updates included in the coreboot firmware itself (v4.12.0.2). I wrote the ISO to both a USB drive and SD card and both failed to boot, hanging at the same point. See the attached text file for the serial output during the boot process.

To see if this was an issue with Parabola specifically, I attempted booting the newest Hyperbola ISO and it hangs during boot as well so I'm not sure if this is an OpenRC issue or kernel bug or...what, exactly. I have an old installation of Parabola (Linux version 5.2.5-gnu-1) on the APU's SSD with Systemd rather than OpenRC and had no issues booting with and without microcode updates.

As a result it is currently impossible to install Parabola to anything from an APU2. I can provide further information / test anything if required.

I tried with and without internet connection, before and after an independent hard format of the disk, without changing any default configuration during the installation and I always end with the same message and error log.

As a bonus, this is the result with the systemd iso. WIth the OpenRC one I can't connect to the wifi, even though all components of my PC are listed one the h-node site.

Hi, I have tested in several system the installation of Parabola Desktop Edition OpenRC LXDE flavor, and in all I have problems. Once the installation has finished the system doesn't boot. I have tested in:

X200 Libreboot system

normal BIOS system

QEMU/KVM system

The install scripts apparently it runs normally and it's doesn't show any error. I send a screen capture of grub install phase and the system boot process.

After several days struggling to install Parabola Linux on a Lenovo X200 system with Libreboot, I have finally been able to do it successfully :-)

Here my conclusions in case they can be useful for the community and in case these procedures can be improved:

1- The installation of Parabola with the last version OpenRC CLI, works but when booting there is some problem with the network interfaces, because they do not appear.
2- The installation of Parabola with the last version of systemd CLI, doesn't work, Libreboot is not able to start the Parabola Live system.
3- The installation of Parabola with the last version of systemd LXDE , doesn't work, Libreboot is not able to start the Parabola Live system.
4- For a successful installation I had to use another computer with a usual BIOS, and once installed move the hard disk to the X200 system.

5- The installation of Parabola with OpenRC LXDE always fails in a computer with a "normal" BIOS and X200 Libreboot, it seems that the scripts doesn't install grub correctly ...

Hi,

First, I don't know if it is a priority and if it is the appropriate place to talk about this, but I try:

When I type "pacman -Ss linux", I get a big list of packages, among which there are a lots of packages unrelated to the Kernel (e.g. cinnamon, tomboy, python-distro, etc.). They include 'Linux' or 'linux' in their descriptions when talking about the OS, instead of 'GNU/Linux'.

Shouldn't we identify them, and correct their description to avoid the confusion and the propagation of a wrong terminology ?
I could do the job if you wish (sending you a diff of concerned PKGBUILDs).

I installed Deepin Desktop Environment recently on my GNU (Parabola) system using pacman ; downloaded packages came from community repo.
I detected two nonfree (or linked to nonfree software) features in deepin-file-manager and deepin-terminal.

deepin-file-manager

When I right-click on an empty zone in any window of the file manager, a menu appears, with a sub-menu called "New document".
It contains: "Office Text Document", "Spreadsheet Document", "Presentation Document" and "Plain Text Document".
The three first entries generate a MS Office text document, a MS Excel speadsheet document and a MS PowerPoint presentation document.

It should be replaced so it create ODT documents

deepin-terminal

When I select any word, and then righ-click on it, a menu appears, with an entry called "Google", which launchs a Google's search engine instance in my web browser.

We can imagin another behaviour, similar to KDE's: the user can toggle some default search engines (duckduckgo, searx, wikipedia, etc..) then applications refeer to it instead of one "mandatory" nonfree and malware search engine.

Thank you in advance for fixing it,

Best regards,
FĂ©licien Pillot <felicien@gnu.org>
