Description

I recently reported that the "riot-destkop" package required electron and it has now been removed. Perhaps this might be a viable alternative? It seems a shame that there are no VOIP-capable libre desktop clients for Matrix.

Description: Better desktop integration for Riot.im (not only) for GNOME.
License: GPLv3 (not sure about this, isn't riot-web/riot-desktop Apache?)
AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/revolt-git/
Code (for Revolt): https://github.com/aperezdc/revolt
Code (for Riot): https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web

according to the github README the revolt program is just riot wrapped in a GTK window - it is distributed as a flatpack so installing it is a single command line if one wants it - i.e. it is hardly worth packaging

the main thing to note though is that even the riot program in question is not really a desktop clients for Matrix - there are no native desktop clients for Matrix - electron is essentially a stripped-down web browser with no buttons that can only access one web page - as such riot is just a web page that can be visited with any browser

I was not aware it was yet another wrapper, I had mistakenly thought it was an actual desktop client that could act as a replacement for the riot-desktop and riot-web packages that I requested be blacklisted. It's a shame there are no true desktop clients for Matrix at this time. This packaging request can be closed, unless there are any alternatives.
