I've written the fix, but not the test.

I've also reviewed the offending commit to verify that the same type of munged conversion didn't occur in any other programs. libredbdiff was also affected, but had already been fixed in c4accb0e91507245584691691baa51a70723dc6e.

Oh, I should add: I believe that this is the root cause of the issue seen by ebrasca and ovruni.
