can you demonstrate this claim please ?

You can demonstrate it yourself by a search on the internet. https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Z--Warsow

i mean how do you know it's art is non-free ?
that link you gave is to the FSF official free software directory - if the art is not distributable then it needs to be removed from that site also - if it is distributable but not "free culture" then it should be removed from parabola - but i would like to see some example to prove this claim

looking at the files list1 there is literally only one distinct image in the binary package - probably a desktop icon - unless the images you are referring to are compiled into an object file they are probably being downloaded from the network each time you play the game; in which case, parabola is not distributing them so there is probably no freedom issue here

Go ahead and use the unzip binary to extract the *.pk3 and see the artwork. You can also go to warsow.net

- File license.txt license.txt added
Pulled the following out of the tar.gz that the PKGBUILD pulls.
From what I read assets are CC and thus not an issue.
Worth noting that this file was in /opt/warsow/docs/license.txt if warsow is installed.

Alright I do not believe it until I hear it from a Warsow developer or artist. I would point out that the license.txt contains the words "nonfree" on filenames which contain artwork for the game. Which means the word "nonfree" are both present in the license file and in the file names.
Could you repackage it so it does not contain the words at least, while I am checking with them what really happened since it was very much non free when I played it a few years ago.

More information about the non free assets:

the exceptions are still CC just CC-BY-ND, instead of CC-BY-SA
So the question is what is Parabolas stance on ND licenses re artwork
Guess if it comes down to it we could just rm *_nonfree_*
in the PKGBUILD
After a bit of wiki reading it seems that the FSDG allows this as long as it is "non-functional data" Which all of these seem to be to me.
Updated by ani almost 6 years ago
The art is functional data in my opinion since the game will not function for you without the maps, sounds, textures, etc.

Can you state and specify the info that is needed by me? Or by whom do you need info?

looks like 3 archives of assets are not free culture so should be removed from parabola?

- Status changed from info needed to in progress
yes - the licensing looks very clear - i suppose this program should be removed - those 3 asset-packs appear to be extensive; they could be removed but i assume the game would either crash or otherwise be quite useless without them

This package is still in the community repository and I do not see progress.
