Description

When shutting down the system gets stuck and will not proceed. Here is the output for all 3 kernel types.

sudo shutdown now

[user@parabola] sudo shutdown now
[sudo] password for user:
/usr/bin/openrc-shutdown --single now
PID1: Recieved "single" from FIFO...
Starting single runlevel
[user@parabola] * Stopping local ...                                                             [ ok ]
 * Saving random seed ...                                                                        [ ok ]
 * Stopping NetworkManager ...                                                                   [ ok ]
 * Stopping dbus ...
ModemManager[1997] <warn> Could not acquire the 'org.freedesktop.ModemManager1' service name

ModemManager[1997] <info> ModemManager is shut down
                                                                                                 [ ok ]

 * Unmounting loop devices
 * Unmounting filesystems
 * Deactivating swap devices ...                                                                 [ ok ]
 * Setting hardware clock using the system clock [UTC] ... [ ok ]

Note: this output was copied by typing it out as I'm not sure how to output shutdown to a log file. I did try using &> as a redirect but it did not work. Also I changed the user and host name on the output. The output was also copied from linux-libre kernel, but I'm pretty sure all shutdowns are identical.

On all kernels, if I hold down the shutdown button it will eventually turn off. During the shutdown hang I can switch tty's but none of the tty's will respond to keyboard input.

Also I think once while holding shutdown on linux-libre-hardened it managed to complete the rest of the shutdown sequence. I could let go of the shutdown button and it would finish it off. However, I am unable to replicate this.

There are some other related issues that I found but nothing exactly like this.

I can provide more info if needed.

It's also worth noting that I have just installed this system yesterday too.

Current system info:

  • uname -a: Linux <hostname> 5.0.5-gnu-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Mar 28 21:36:12 UTC 2019 x86_64 GNU/Linux
  • Device: ThinkPad T400 with Libreboot
  • Parabola version: Parabola OpenRC Cli

Don't worry I found a fix.

Apparently on openrc to shutdown you must use

# openrc-shutdown -p

  • Status changed from unconfirmed to not-a-bug

sinaptik -

i could not help but notice that the three bug reports you opened this week were not actually bugs; but essentially requests for help because you did not read the documentation - asking for help is fine; but general support questions should be asked on the [assist] mailing list - it is best to reserve the bug tracker for bugs and feature requests (tasks where there is a goal and progress that is "tracked")
