which terminal? and what is "the selected character"?

i use the KDE terminal 'konsole' often with no apparent problems

In konsole, yes. The cursor is offset by a certain amount of space from where it's supposed to be. I reinstalled parabola and installed kde again and I got the same problem. I have attached a screenshot that shows this and the missing icons. The space between the cursor and the preceding character is not inserted by me.

i dont know how the .bashrc got that way - that file comes from arch - those look like stray tab chars - you can probably delete them

the actual shell prompt in your terminal looks exactly as intended though - if you dont like it you can o/c change it - this is the original prompt from arch:

PS1='[\u@\h \W]\$ '

i was able to get the icons using 'qt5ct' by choosing 'Oxygen' on its 'icon theme' tab

it may also suffice to uninstall 'qt5ct' if you do not plan to use any other DE

  • Subject changed from Icons missing in kde plasma 5.16 to [parabola-laf]: Icons missing in kde plasma 5.16

i associated this with the 'parabola-laf' package which contains new user skeleton configs for desktops - im not sure it can be addressed in skel though, or if this is an unresolvable conflict - qt5ct is a dependency of 'parabola-laf' because it is provides a uniform LAF across GTK and QT programs regardless of the WM/DE - it looks like KDE tries to handle that itself in a way that conflicts with 'qt5ct'; but AFAIK it is the only DE that has such a feature
