Freedom Issue #972: TeXLive freedom verification
[texlive-core] ec fonts are nonfree
fmtutil-sys prints a lot of error messages during the upgrade. The LaTeX documents can still be compiled, though.

This problem is because of missing ec fonts. Those were probably removed because were considered as non-free by mistake. In fact even Free Software Foundation recognizes their license as free (see https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#ecfonts ).
Therefore, the ec fonts should be included back to the texlive-core package.

Thank you for any help with that.

Redistribution of unchanged files is allowed provided that all files listed in the file 00files.txt are distributed, including this file.
Where is that file in the archives listed in
sourceof the PKGBUILD? (Upstream distributes them, maybe with documentation, but Arch doesn't.)
The license itself is ok, but the license of PL fonts on which EC is based is not. We need them to get relicensed and find if/that the author of EC had a permission to use them under the EC license.

- % Done changed from 0 to 50
Gerd Neugebauer says that PL (a dependency for EC) is free, and that it is indicated on pl.dtx . Can someone contact upstream (Arch) to let them know that ec.doc.tar.xz needs to be added to the source package? That would be all to make this free software and close this issue.

ec has updated its license a while ago, and is now considered to be free by the FSF:
