Description
A very recent commit in pixman improved the graphics performance of the Yeeloong dramatically. At first glance the performance seems more or less the same of the modified Debian distribution tailored for this specific machine, but fails when it comes to video playback. Presumably the video playback is faster in modified Debian because of the patched MPlayer. The author of the commit has written a blog post just days ago: http://mattst88.com/blog/2012/05/17/Optimizing_pixman_for_Loongson:_Process_and_Results/ . With his efforts there is hope for the various GPL patches to become obsolete.

My last attempt to test it failed due to an unrelated X hang. Will try it and upload if it works ok here.
Video playback uses patches to xf86-video-siliconmotion and ffmpeg, they could be discussed in separate issues.

Pixman is being actively developed. Video playback works almost at full speed with unmodified VLC Media Player.
